I've never done 40+ mph on the flats on any bike, though I can see it on the tandem with a good tailwind. Downhill? Sure - topped out at about 52mph (though we'd have been able to cruise at 55 easily on the tandem on our way down from Mt St Helens if not for the wicked headwind that had sprung up - still did around 45mph for close to 10 miles without turning the cranks )

What are Scott bars? Do you mean aero bars/tri bars?

Scott bars are where you put your forearms facing each other and hunch down for less resistance. They're pretty cool, but you have to be careful.

I'm going todo some yard work, relax and watch the Tour De France final two stages. America has done real well again this year. I thought that without Lance Armstong in it the last two years I'd loose interest. Not so.

We went down to Milwaukee for the weekend. We visited the zoo and watched the Brewers play Saturday night. Sunday we went to German Fest along the Lake. Milwaukee is a really fun town.

It is a great idea! I'm guilty of putting comments in for people in the middle of posts :-) instead of sending a personal message!

Not serious swimming, just a quick dip in the lake. I found a great beach north of Point Beach State Forest, run by the Manitowoc County School District, has a little parking area and a path down to the lake. Its free, just a sign with usual restrictions, glass containers, safety, etc.

Water is very clear there, not alot of algae or cloudiness like TR has sometimes. I do my rock collecting there, too, tons of beautiful smooth lake rocks. I see other people there with buckets early in the a.m. collecting rocks. You could pick up hundreds and the next day there would be that many more. I collect at the state park but this area is a little jut out with sand bars and its just awesome.
