We're moving south from Wisconsin next week. Can't wait. Lived here for 20 years and have finally had enough of the long winters and high taxes. $4000/yr for a 1400 sq ft 2 bedroom, 1 bath house! And housing is very expensive. Madison used to be a pretty nice place to live, but now too many people, too much traffic. Hard to enjoy the fun things like farmers' market and art fair because of stifling crowds. People are friendly, but who has time for friends--too busy trying to earn money to pay taxes. And way too much government. Will miss the leftist politics, but we need to spread out and turn some red states blue.

your perspective might change after you've been weaned off of the steady diet of madison newspapers and group-think

sorry, i couldn't resist....but seriously, i hope you find people in the south more open to other political perspectives than people are here in madison...

We have friends in New Hampshire that pay $7000 a year in taxes. They live in town on a 150 by 200 foot lot and there home is 1800 square feet. We have a home on 2 acres that is 3600 square feet and we pay less then $3000. We are in north central Wisconsin. My Mom's house is in Chicago taxes are over $4000. We also own land in Colorado and the taxes are only $50 a year but believe me you wouldn't want to live there. It is the middle of no where. But the land has been in the family for over 100 years.

They don't have income tax in New Hampshire or sales tax but they make up for it in propery taxes and other taxes. Our friends were shocked when they had to pay a vehicle registration fee of $400 and $600 for each car ( it depends on the year and size of your car). Once they are done with his contract they will be moving back to WI. They also said the schools can be iffy in some areas. The town next to them does not have kindergarten because the tax revenue does not generate enough income for them to support a kingergarten.
