Well, if I didn't have a work healthplan I wouldn't be insurable, so I'm pretty happy about mine. I only pay $60 a month and that's for a full coverage HMO with all the bells and whistles, so I'm extremely lucky in that respect.

I'm in my mid 20s and have struggled with insurance issues since I was little... it's hard getting coverage when you have a life threatening disorder and require medication for it. No amount of homeopathic remedies will help me there.

Yeah that 60 is more reasonable... not sure why his is 146 unless he has dependants. If anything dental should only be about 15-20 more.

Depending on your plan it can be a waste, but until you decide to move and become covered under Universal Health Care then you're better off with insurance. Whoever said they only had to pay $100 for a $50,000 incident is extremely lucky. My parents have good health insurance and they still have a $200 deductible.

My relative was injured in a crash that was ruled not to be her fault. She had a broken leg and even with insurance it still cost $5,000 because the medical company that was used for the bone stimulator filed with her insurance over a year later. The insurance forbid to pay for it because they missed the deadline to file for it and said, "They have to write it off." The medical company said, "No, we only filed as a courtesy. We're not required to file, so you have to pay $5,000." She took it to a lawyer and the lawyer said, "It would cost more to fight it than it would to pay it."

i havent been to the doctor in 15 years. if i ever needed something major done, i would do alternative treatments and stay far away from the hospitals.

It's well known that one's mind has a big effect on physical health. If you think you will get sick, then you will. If you think you won't, then you won't.

I choose not to think myself into sickness.

Not necessarily. My body doesn't produce an enzyme... I can't 'think' my way out of that.

At my last job it was $445 to cover just myself.... and the insurance was HORRIBLE. It barely covered anything, my copays were a joke and the nearest doctor that the insurance would cover was over 4 hours away. I had to apply for a scholarship through a foundation to cover my costs temporarily until I found a better job.

So $146 isn't too terrible from what I've experienced.

No, $146 isn't bad.

We pay half our premium for a not so great plan. It's a family and we pay $708 a month with a $2,000 deductible.

So your max out of pocke is $3,000, yet you say you will go bankrupt if something big happens.
