If I can make more money someplace else, and you're not gonna match it, so long.
You can fire me anytime and you have all of the power to do so, but always remember.....I don't need approval or have to crunch numbers and participate in a meeting to decide who goes and who stays. I can decide now.
Cut my pay or bennies? Don't get butt hurt if I look elsewhere.
I'm not entitled to a job here and in the same breath, you don't own me.
I don't like the policy changes. I'm not gonna whine or try to change 'em. I'm just gonna leave.
In this day and age, it's not only common to change jobs frequently, it's also common that folks change CAREERS.
Let's face it.
It's doubtful that a kid fresh out of high school or college is gonna stay at the same place 'til retirement. It just doesn't happen anymore.
Good attitude. Work hard, keep your financial house flexible, and stay "in demand" by having the right education/training/certification and you will be the one with the leverage. The problem with too many Americans is we buy a huge house based on the salary we "should" make in 5 years and then get complacent and, ultimately, the employer looks for someone else. Then we complain how the system is unfair.
More people should have your attitude and stop playing the part of the victim.

In the pst I was new and since I wanted to prove myself I was not even thinking about going on the internet. Now that it's 2 years later and I have proved myself and have strong working relationships with several managers, i usally take a 15 min internet break from time to time.
The key to getting a job is to avoid HR entirely. Their number one job is to protect the company. Therefore, they are your natural enemy and trying to appease your natural enemy when you're in a position of need is no way to get ahead in a career – or in any other area of life, for that matter.
While watching "Waiting for Superman" and reading about the "high skilled workers" needed, I realized the skills they mention could only be acquired in the company or in a 6+ year education. Yet, most companies do not want to train people.

It's ridiculous anymore.....
Show me someone in 2011 that has stayed at the same job for 20+ years and I'll show you someone that is severely underpaid.
Like your job and like the people there?
Fine.
Think your job is OK but you can make more cash down the street?
Move.
Why do I work?
Well....I love what I do but the cash is the main incentive.
Ya THINK?
