...Continued....Following that wonderful experience, I make it a point to ask at interviews if the workplace is a "non smoking office." Some small companies still don't get this concept. ...just a sidenote.
Don't you hate when smokers stand........... RIGHT IN THE DAMN DOORWAY?
It's even worse if it's raining.
Oh, my "favorite" smokers are the ones that take the last puff and exhale on their way in........smelling up the hallway........I hate that.
The smokers at my place take a minimum of 4 breaks plus the 1/2 hour lunch. Me? I get the whopping 1/2 hour lunch. The office manager that was hired after me? She doesn't smoke-but drinks a CASE of diet Pepsi each day-she spends more time away from her desk than the smokers.(she sits right across from me and she pops one open as soon as she gets to the desk in the am). Maybe we should ban drinking large amounts of soda each day too.

That's too much soda even 1 can a day is too many.
I don't see how one can compare drinking soda and smoking in the office, around those who obviously don't smoke. Drinking soda, you're not forcing others to drink it. Smoking around non smokers forces them to inhale second hand smoke. Not everybody wants to do that. It's a free country and everyone has a right to smoke, drink whatever they wish, and do drugs, if that's their thing. Just don't force it on others. If you are a business owner who smokes like a freight train at your business, you need to tell candidates that and maybe make it a policy to hire only smokers!! Don't expect non smokers to put up with this for the sake of a paycheck in a crappy economy. If you do expect non smokers to "just deal with it" in this economy, I say you as an employer are a piece of scheit and I want to have nothing to do with you - good economy or not.
Yes, it's legal...and look for it to become much more common.
