I have bad allergies this time of year and they cause me to sneeze and have a slight runny nose. I take medicine and try to sniffle as quietly as possible if I have to.

Anyways, my nearest coworker, who I rarely interact with, handed me a Kleenex box with a Post-It note on it that said "USE THIS". I said, "Thanks," but I couldn't figure out whether her giving me the box of Kleenex with a note was supposed to be a nice and helpful gesture or a passive-aggressive way of saying that she was annoyed by me. Either way, it made me feel awkward.

It's a passive aggressive way of saying that your sniffles aren't as quite as you think.

She's annoyed by your sniffling.

Take the hint and use the Kleenex.

I have to listen to coworkers hacking, coughing, clearing their throats, and snorting wet snot all day long. It's disgusting. DISGUSTING.

Well, I try my best! My sniffles were subtle, I thought.

I've always found the sound of someone blowing their nose to be completely gross.

It sounds like you might be sniffing all day, instead of blowing it out. I'm sorry but I would do the same, that kind of thing will literally drive the people around you insane, I'm serious! Please use them.

Apparently, you were wrong. The sound of someone constantly sniffling is very annoying to most people. In a cube farm, there is no such thing as "subtle" or quiet sniffling. Everyone hears it. Everyone is probably annoyed with you (some are probably really, really, really annoyed). Your colleague did you a favor. Use the tissues. And STOP SNIFFLING. It's annoying.

I am more annoyed by someone sniffing than blowing their nose. Definitely a passive aggressive message.

I had a former subordinate that sniffled constantly. I finally had to ask him why he didn't take Claratin or something.

See thread about office pet peeves and the reference to snot-snorters.

But hey, at least she did it to your face and not via some cowardly anonymous act.
