American workers stay longer in the office, at the factory or on the farm than their counterparts in Europe and most other rich nations, and they produce more per person over the year.
They also get more done per hour than everyone but the Norwegians, according to a U.N. report released Monday, which said the United States "leads the world in labor productivity."
Those reports on productivity often misleading and downplay the real reasons. US workers are most productive because of wise investments by the business managers in this country.
Productivity is simply a statistical measure dividing product value by headcount and related measurements. It does not account for the tools available so a worker with a tractor will be much more productive than one without it.
Investments in equipment, production lines, procedures, as well as training, computers, and communications make US workers much more productive than elsewhere. It is not a measure of how hard people work.
The US is growing faster because there's there's successively greater application of credit to generate output than in the past. It works the same way on the street level. We just saw the greatest example of that over the past five years with many people buying homes with no downpayment and taking out loans without paying down the principal. In order to keep demand and prices inflating, builders and lenders kept coming out with new financial tricks to keep the market expanding. They got to the point in 2005 and 2006 that they had to fabricate the incomes of large segment of their customer base in order to complete sales.
There's a good chart in the following link of the relationship between debt and income.
Today I read two stories about American workers. One was positive and one was negative.
From what I've noticed throughout the years in America, is that many companies and employers force their workers to work so hard, by expectation. They make the rules. If American workers could choose their own pace I'll bet they would choose having more vacation time, less duties (one job instead of doing the job of two and three employees).
It is my opinion that European employers are more fare with their employees and that may be why we Americans (for the most part) seem stressed to the limit.
All-in-all we may the subjects of a corporation conspiracy to get the most out of these mules (I mean workers) as they can; while giving the least back to their workforce! It's obvious they don't give a darn about them - that's why it's better to work for myself if you can.
1. We are more capitailist. We get rewarded for hard work and results. Alot of European countries still have a semi comunist mindset (90% of your job is just showing up.
2. Our technology is pretty good
