Last year, Wisconsin Republicans changed child labor laws so that 16 and 17 year olds would be able to work more hours.

Here are the new child labor laws as of June 2011:
-14 and 15 year olds may only work 3 days on a school night, including Fridays.
-14 and 15 year olds may not work more than 40 hours per non-school week.
-14 and 15 years may not work more than 18 hours per school week.
-14 and 15 year olds may only work between 7am to 7pm, with the exception of summer days which is from 7am to 9pm.
-16 and 17 year olds may work unlimited hours, except during school.
-All Teens are prohibited from working during scheduled school hours.

What are you thoughts on this?

I wonder if they make an exception to the "no working during school hours" rule for homeschoolers?

It means during school hours, or hours they are supposed to be in school.

In India, three-year olds work 8 h a day in the clay-brick factories.
Our three-year olds are just spoiled brats here in the US!

What's your point?

P.S.: Of course, my point is that you have no point! And that I am absolutely disgusted w/ the direction this country is taking.

Not to backseat moderate, but please don't post in this thread if you're going to brag about what's going on in India or if you're just going to say something unrelated to employment.

I wasn't intending in having a 'point'. The 'purpose' of this thread is to point out your thoughts about Wisconsin's new law that was passed in July 2011.

When DH had his bakery, many years ago, he had a high school girl who worked for him who frequently got suspended (usually for smoking, but once for giving the principal the finger). She'd come in, say, "I got suspended," and DH would give her more hours, usually during the day when she would normally have been in school. She was a good worker, and later went to the vocational technical center to take courses in food prep. Regular school just wasn't her thing.

I worked 5 days a week, at least 25 hours a week, at that same bakery, from the time I was 15 until I graduated from business college. (DH was my boss in the later years). I paid for my own schooling, PLUS having my teeth straightened.

There's nothing wrong with letting kids work as much as they want to, if there are jobs and hours available. Each kid knows their own capacity.
