I work in healthcare and am pretty established. Good resume, experience, etc. I'm gainfully employed and am relatively happy with my two jobs. However, I want to stay within healthcare but a different setting. My question is...Is it really that bad out there or are people just being to picky??? I don't want to start with resumes, applications, etc if it's really as bad as people say. Everybody I know has a job...restaurants are packed...new cars on the road. Honest answers???
^^^Are you a Surgical Technician or a P.A.? I work in Pharmacy and we are crazy busy. The hospital I work at owns the doctor office practices. They are hiring people to be Medical Technicians because they are cheaper to pay than RN's. Would you be interested in something like that?
Some skill sets are not in demand and some are in high demand - it all depends. I think a lot of people are having problems finding jobs because they've been out of work so long. You're always more employable if you've only been out of work for a short while or if you are currently employed.
I would say, if you are considering looking, then apply to some jobs and see what happens. If you get an offer (and don't accept) or go on interviews, do not tell anyone at work. Don't let anyone at work know that you are looking, have been looking - just keep it to yourself and you will be ok.
OP, for your line of work, with your experience, you should not have a problem. I open up "the paper", (internet), every day and see tons and tons of listings for jobs in the health care market. You should be able to land a job pretty easily. Go for it.
