To OP...lunch hour, after work, or even occasional PTO days in order to look for a new job are perfectly reasonable. Although I would save the PTO for the 2nd interviews, Etc.
I didn't say don't look for a new job just be as discreet as possible. I remember when 2 guys announced their resignation it came as a shock to everyone because they never made it obvious they were looking to go somewhere else. I just remember seeing people get fired for calling out more than 3 times in one month and they always would say things like...."It's my time and I can use it when I want too" That always sounded crazy

Read before responding please, I said "if you are not using sick time". In other words, PTO/vacation.

Okay, well, I do have a bit more of a direct semi-related question...

I got an email on Thursday regarding a position I had applied to over a year ago. They were asking if I was still looking for a position as they had an opening, and my resume surfaced as a possible candidate.

I am, and I have an interview for an entry level media related full time salaried position later this week

I'm just curious how I should handle talking about my current job/why I'm looking to leave. Here is why I am looking to leave: It's only 20 hours a week, no benefits, pays $10 an hour (office job).

I love the office itself, my co-workers, the bosses, but really, I need a full time job with a decent salary (don't we all).

I really would love to get this job, so I just wanna make sure I handle any possible questions as best I can.

How did you apply for this media job and what type of job is it? And you will just express your passion for working in the media in a "non scripted way" and let them know why you are the ideal candidate for the job

I applied for it a year ago, so I honestly don't remember, I actually never heard from them when I applied a year ago.

It's an entry level position for a communications firm that works with employers.

oh ok. I didn't know whether you applied online because I been trying to get a media related job since 1998 and never was able to do it. I figured you only got those types of jobs by knowing someone

Well, I definitely applied online, just not sure which site.

Really?? You've been trying that long unsuccessfully?? Did you go to college?

Yes I went to college and majored in mass communications but after a year or two I went into another field because I needed to support myself and get my own place and could no longer chase a dream

Like the others said here, don't mention that you are looking for another job to anyone at your current work, as you want to leave on your own terms and not theirs.

If you get the written offer, put in your 2 week notice, but never tell anyone at work that you are looking, just best not to for many reasons.

That's great you are hearing back from a place you applied to way earlier, it is unexpected sometimes they can take so long to get back to you. Good luck on your interview.
