In general, would you think a better career choice would be to go into SharePoint 2010 administration, which includes setup and configuration of the server, active directory integration, and some infopath workflows.

The Windows Server Administration job would be your standard windows and networking situation where most of the servers are in VMWare ESX environments.

Thanks in advance!

Definitely VMWare, Windows and Storage. If you have all three, you are looking at $100K to start.

Didn't you ask this question a few weeks ago?

SharePoint administrator vs. Windows Server VMWare Admin?

It's going to take time and experience to get a job in the IT Field. Certifications will help you out a lot.

At a previous place of employment, I worked with a Sharepoint designer who rolled in the dough. I know nothing about IT, so I don't know which one is better, but I will say this guy made a good living. Just out of curiosity sake, do you have to have a degree in computer science or something to be a Sharepoint person? Or do you just have to take some classes to get certified?

A SharePoint designer will make a lot more money than a SharePoint administrator or VMWare/Windows server administrator. It's a completely different job function.

It's unfortunate that so many job postings for Sharepoint Admins include the requirement for extensive .net/C# programming.

Hell, I came across a listing last week that asked for 10 years of .net programming and 7 years of sharepoint design plus all sorts of other demands. Many hiring managers fail to know the difference between admins and designers, which is a shame. You need the admin full-time but you can contract the designer as-needed and save money.
