Dammit, pig hearts and tripe? How do they make it taste so good?

Hahaha Now I know why I didn't care much for it.

Short Answer: Working in fast food is an easy way for someone to gain work experience especially if they either just immigrated to the country, or they are in high school/college.

I think that would be fun. I was just saying yesterday how I either want to operate a bulldozer or I want to work for a demolition crew. I am awesome at breaking things, but I can't fix them so a demolition crew would be a great fit!

There are plenty of unskilled jobs that you can make more money doing...sometimes a lot more.

Read a news story about a guy who has worked for Mickie D's for 20 years...still making minimum wage, which in his state is 8.25/hr.

Why not become a barback, busser?

I agree, fast food is one of the worst jobs you can ever have. Telemarketing is better than fast food since it helps you develop marketing skills.

It is enough to pay rent in most cases.
And what I found to be a huge issue when I worked fast food... cheap food. If you stay at a place long enough, odds are you can even count on free food if you are in financial trouble.

So, it is a job that provides immediate security. Leaving is going to create risk of starving, going homeless, etc.
(And fast food places are not dumb. If you plan to leave, they cut your hours to nothing so that you quit and do not get unemployment. So quitting for a new job can be very difficult.)

Fast Food jobs pays the rent if you live in the Ghetto.

Couldn't agree more.

I'm leaving my current corporate america job in a couple weeks for a mom and pop business where I don't have a dozen cameras zoned in on me with 15 supervisors walking around wanting to know why I picked up my cell phone.

Because I got a text message jackass!

You only check your text messages on your break not when you are working

No.. I check it when I get a text. My mother is currently dying of cancer and I will read every text and answer every call I get.

Being sick of working in a prison like atmosphere with a clueless management chain is one reason I'm changing jobs... the 35% increase in pay at the new job is the other.

It's an obvious choice really... be your own boss and a raise that is substantially greater than the $0.55 "cost of living" raise I got last week... or continue at your current job and still probably be doing the same job at virtually the same pay 5 years from now?

Goodbye corporate america.

Or if you live in a low cost of living area and/or have room-mates. Not having a vehicle or health insurance, also helps. I got a friend who shares a nice apartment that's $400/month split (so $200) and maybe $200 in other bills. He doesn't have any money saved, but he has money left over after his bills. He makes about $800/month.

I know several that pull it off without living in government housing and having food stamps and even have cash to spare, although most unmarried fast food workers living on their own I know does so with government help.
