Count meetings, reading job related publications, actually working on something, etc. Don't count talking to co-workers about random stuff, surfing on the internet, lunch, etc.
I would say I do maybe 20-25 hours of real actual work per week.
I would say 35 for me. I support 7 people, so unless we are REALLY dead, there is always someone who needs something from me. And the second I get to a place where I feel caught up it is like they know...7 emails appear.
I really depends on the week. Sometime I might do 10 hours of actual work in a week but there are some (like last week) where I probably did 35-40. It probably averages out to around 25.
Damn near 40 hours out of a 40 hour work week. We are required to keep detailed logs of every job/project we are working on, along with various tasks performed. That's the thing about productive occupations... You're paid to produce. Sometimes, I'm afraid that it's the efforts of the producers who are paying the way for the non producers. Nice thing I like about where I work... We don't have any front/back office staff to support
Most of it (2+) is Monday morning when I input the invoices into the computer system from the previous week, cut & mail checks, etc. The rest of the time is just checking e-mail hoping someone will mail/forward me an invoice I can process. After about lunch time Monday, the rest of the week is pretty much sit around, do nothing and wait.
Probably close to 40 out of 40 hours. I work in a warehouse...if you just chat and not work you don't hit your rate. Not hitting your rate will get you fired.
It used to be more, but as of my new job at the end of last year I have been able to back down to about 50-55 hours of real, actual work.
