I called up a company today to apply for a job and asked who to address my job application to. He told me to either address it to himself or another name he mentioned. Do I write down any one of their names, because it would look silly on my cover letter to say "Dear Mr. Smith and Mr. Black," I'm assuming it does not matter which one I write down.

Are you sending a physical letter in? If so, for the heading, write the name and address of the company. Underneath that, put:

Attn: Mr. Smith
CC: Mr. Black

Then start your letter with "Dear Sir". Send the exact letter/application in separate envelops to each of them, with just their names on the envelop.

OR, it's really just easier to email them!! Put both their names in the address line and write "Dear Sirs".
