My mom says that my friend is getting SSI due to my friend being in special education in high school and by being in that program it lead to her getting SSI. How is that possible? I have tried getting SSI and I have problems.

Do your "problems" qualify you for SSI?
If so, did you follow the process to request SSI?

I would get a better lawyer, there are many that specialize in this kind of situation.

I've always heard that the disabilities are acceptable are the type that cannot be treated w/ medication. I wonder if depression and anxiety are in that group. I've just heard that, not anything I can document.

What does your denial letter say? You cannot really compare your case with someone else's case, all people have different issues. I would visit w/ your attorney, with your Mom present. Perhaps there is more documentation ot letters from your Doctors that are needed. Your Mom will help you.

I have a brother that has been denied for about 7-8 years. He has a heart valve shunt, and several other medical issues and has to take about 8 different meds, including a blood thinner.

There are millions of people who suffer from anxiety and depression, myself and a number of my friends included, two of whom committed suicide. It never occurred to any of us to ask the government for money. I dealt with it through therapy and medication, and completed college and graduate school and have worked the past 37 years.

The anxiety has to be from a reason that is not psychological to qualify. My brother was injured and has a documented brain deficiency that causes anxiety and he qualifies. But no amount of medicine or therapy will make up for a part of his brain not functioning.

I'm sure Jessie will be in shortly to tell you all how wonderful SSDI is, along with his bike collection and gaming computer.

SSDI is only for people who have an extensive work history. That's different from SSI which is for people with disabilities that don't have enough work quarters.

All I know is that I suffer from anxiety and depression and I need SSI, I am getting cut from my health insurance this year, and need the money and medical that the program offers.
