Every 12 months I go online or class and do the whole hippa agreement thing..

My question is... can I enforce Hippa rules as an employee for my boss gossiping about me to others..??
I'm not in trouble or anything but she suspectsi'm dating another employee..
we are friends but not dating..

I do want to though badly..

I think you need to take the course again, HIPAA has nothing to do with who you are dating, it has to do with privacy of medical records and is geared towards health care providers mostly. Now if you had cancer and your boss was walking around telling everyone but you didn't want her to do that because it would affect how you were treated at work, that might be a different story...

I'm not sure that this poor behavior on your manager's part has anything to do with HIPPA (I'm actually 99% sure it doesn't, but correct me if I'm wrong).

However, how do you know she is gossiping? I'd recommend starting to keep a log of every time you hear something, save e-mails, etc. Familiarize yourself with your HR/Company policies. My company has a policy that it enforces with disciplinary warning for these sorts of things. Stuff like this can make peoples jobs hell.

I guess I don't really know enough about your situation though. Are you doing anything to start these rumors yourself, IE telling coworkers these things and they are just passing the info to your boss?

Edit: You also may want to completely keep your friendship outside of the office. Some people are more strict than others.

I think you need to take a better class.

HIPAA has nothing to do with your personal life as an employee. It is always possible that I have missed something, and I am certainly no expert, but why would you think that it applies at all?
