I know it's been stated, and I agree, that they should speak half the time and you the other half. The other day I had a really passionate sales manager speak the entire time, save the 1-2 minutes I could in, and that required me cutting him off, to acknowledge that I am like him, and he should consider me.
I am hoping some HM's can reply because to me its a quagmire. I know I need to be a good listener, and I am, I know I shouldn't interrupt, and what to do with a person that dominates the entire time?
The good news is I am moving forward, the bad is he rambled so much that we couldn't finish so we are finishing next week via phone.
It seems the only way to get half the time is cut him off, which is bad, or be nice and let him take the entire time slot. Damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario?
Additionally the reason I am concerned about, I was given a verbal by the SM for a diff co. he took the entire time, just like the above SM, and I didn't get the job, in part, because I wasn't able to leave a lasting impression

Most of the time, when the interviewer dominates the interview they come away with a positive impression of the candidate. Hilarious but true. The interviewer is leading the interview, let them lead it. Do the same on the phone interview. Frustrating, yes...but you have to play the game at this point...
I believe it was in the old book How to win friends and influence people, where it is discussed how to be known as a great conversationalist. Basically the idea is to let everybody else do 90% of the talking, and they will think you are a great guy. I spent many years in sales, and most of the interviews I had like yours I was not only offered the job, but many times offered a bigger split or base salary than they advertised. It got to the point where I would assume I did not get a job if I did most of the talking in an interview, as I did not ask the right questions to get them talking the whole time.
I actually used the same technique for face to face sales, and networking, and was always known as a great closer and someone you could call for advice from referral sources.
No it isn't, let the interviewer do most of the talking during the interview and make sure your responses to all the questions has a conversational tone

If? She doesn't have her own computer to check the website? And please explain why your name being added to a website staff list would be cause for excitement of any degree anyway?

It's obvious she enjoys having me work there and wanted me to know that which is why asked me to check in my office
