My manager forewarned me that I would be getting a low performance rating. I've work my but off in this role for the last year, but i feel like I am not "liked" by certain people, and don't have the right connections that want to see me succeed here, so I'm definitely looking elsewhere. But nothing has come up yet -- no offers, no interviews yet. Should I quit after the holidays? I've been at the company over 2 years and have prior work experience, so I would leave it on my resume. while being fired certainly has a negative connotation, I could certainly use the Unemp. benefits, whereas if i quit, i don't have much of a cushion to work off of.

Usually thats a managers way of alerting you to look for another job, without actually firing you. You dont want to be fired. Start your search now, dont quit though. You need another job lined up. Plus you cant go on unemployment if you quit I believe.

A low performance rating doesn't mean that you will be fired, necessarily. If you aren't getting any responses to your job inquiries now, it's probably not going to get better when you are unemployed. I'd tough it out and continue looking while staying at the job unless the workplace becomes hostile.

Hang in there and seek a new job. If you have been there over 2 years and there is no progress or you feel you are regressing in this workplace it is time to move on. It is easier to find a job when you have one by far. Best of luck to you.

All of the above. If your manager told you you'd be getting a poor review it sounds like they would prefer to have you leave on your own vs firing you. Use it to your advantage - keep looking and stay employed.

Quitting isn't going to pay the bills.

Have you asked what they would like to see you do in order to improve your performance rating?

A low performance review should be followed up with an action plan( developed with your manager) set over a period of time( 6 months, etc) where you are given specific performance targets to meet/exceed. Unless this isn't your first poor review, I'm not sure why you'd be fired for it. What was your previous review like?

And, I know what you mean about feeling disliked. In my last job they very blatantly played favorites, in fact I was told by my direct manager that I need to 'play politics' after stating to him that I'm just the type that likes to come in, give my best effort, and go home end of the day. Imagine that.

Never quit before you have another job. Ask your manager for what you can do to improve your performance. I would also bring to the table what you THINK would help improve! Good luck

What are the criticisms you expect to receive on your performance review? Are they legitimate?
