So im thinking of moving back to the West Coast because my life seems stagnant right now. I need a change. I love it here in Nashville, but I've always wanted to move back out there and I feel like 2014 is the time. Summer 2014 specifically. I have a job currently that is adequate for the life I live, and I realize moving and leaving it could blow up in my face but I think I'm willing to put all my eggs in the basket. I have savings and stuff that could hold me over for awhile but I'm wondering what the best way (or smartest I should say) to try and pursue/land a job before actually moving might be. I'm 28, am not worried about being poorly qualified, and willing to take a job that may pay a little less in order to live where I want. Has anyone had any success or have any advice regarding this probably-all-too-common situation? And no, my company doesn't have locations outside of Tennessee, much less where I'm looking to go. Thanks for any responses.
1. Start applying for jobs in the new location as soon as possible.
2. If you have friends and family in the new location, ask them to look at their internal job postings to give you leads, actual hiring manager contact info, and referrals.
3. Make sure your cover letter explains that you are relocating on your own.
Move there and contact headhunters and staffing agencies immediately. They can get you set up on temp assignments while you seek out full-time employment. I did this five years ago when I move across country with no job and it worked out pretty well.
