What's the largest salary increase you received for switching jobs?

I have a friend that's currently underpaid by $25-30k compared to market rate, due to gaining new skills and 3 years of experience. I received a $20k raise myself, 2 years ago. I am curious how much companies are willing to offer.

The 20k raise for the same exact job responsibilities, just at a new company?

Many times when people jump to a new position it is NOT the same title or even the same level...if I were to jump to project management I would be looking at a large raise (probably in the 20k area), but it is NOT the same job.

When I switched jobs, it was for the same position. I had gained 3 years of experience, though.

My friend had no experience in their current position, when they first started. The salary was market rate for an inexperienced analyst. Now, they have 3 years of SQL reporting and data analysis. They would like another analyst position.

Usually that is a level increase, going from junior (entry level) to mid-level...depending on how they view it. Some companies say 0-2 is entry level, 2-5 junior, 5-10 mid-level, 10+ senior. Of course all of this is different. If they hire him with 3 years experience they will be hiring him at a different level, and he should expect a pay raise (albeit different from region to region). Cost of living is a huge factor here. If you live in the midwest and make 40k/yr and are offered a job in the northeast US at say 50-55k/yr it's not really a pay raise at all.

Once I started working for the prince of Nigeria, my pay rate increased beyond my wildest dreams. I'm just waiting for it to hit my bank account.
