My daughter, who moved back to Maryland to attend Univ of Md was offered a position at a assisted living facility. She went to have her physical, and they told her that her insurance didn't cover it and that she would have to pay the $100. I've searched all over and while I'm finding plenty of anecdotal evidence that the employer pays I can't find a specific law or rule that requires that the employer pay.

Are there any requirements regarding this?

Thanks!
Laura

none at all. If your daughter lived in Alaska and they wanted her to come to Maryland for the interview they aren't required to pay for the plane ticket or hotel either.

Employers can charge for a physical, drug test, or even training if they want to, there are no laws preventing it. If someone wants the job they have to pay it. Unfortunately they don't always disclose this ahead of time.

This probably gives a glimpse of what it will be like working there. Such as

-expected to take classes and pay for them out of pocket.
-expected to drive your own car for work duties without reimbursement.
-required to wear specific uniforms but pay out of your pocket for them.

I'd pass on them. Making candidates pay for recruitment costs even if legal in some instances is very low class and a sign of a rotten company.

Fed Ex Ground requires employees to pay for a drug test.

More companies are doing this. Why? Because they can. There are no laws prohibiting it.

I can see that one, especially for truck drivers. They probably do it for liability purposes.

I can see them requiring the drug test.. Not so much making the employee (or prospective employee) pay for it.
