I think a personal and sincere "thank you" is enough. That is all I have ever done.

Doesn't matter--he took the time to do it.

Perfect. It is always appropriate to thank people when they do something nice for you.

I agree 100%. It is always appropriate to thank someone when they do something nice for you regardless of whether the money came out of his pocket or the company's.

Don't do a group note.

Skip the generosity bit...it was a business expense.

HE was evaluating YOU. It wasn't all social.

Appreciate being invited to join the group dinner last night. It was wonderful to get to know you and my colleagues a little better.

Bye.

He was evaluating all the new people. The ones who stand out will be remembered. Some of a person's career success involves having the right social grades.

I agree no group note. A short email expressing thanks is enough.

Definitely this.

NO group notes and no speaking for others (we all enjoyed it).

Unless you want them to think you're the busy [body] social secretary.
