I just negotiated a good job in the town I am currently. The salary could be better, but basically I am okay with this full-time position.

However, I am not sure of how long will I stay, because my boyfriend may be relocating to different part of this country within next several weeks or months. And of course I want to be with him.

Having a job and some sort of income is always better than waiting and having nothing for me, but not for the company should I decide to leave after couple of weeks.

Have you ever done that? Taking a job and leaving soon?

Yes.

And I didn't put that job on my resume, even though I left on good terms.

It happens more often than you think. Some people just don't jive well with some companies and their culture. Some employers hire on false pretenses.

Yeah, I guess sometimes even if the employee has intention to stay indefinitely, the company culture may be different from what he expected during the hiring process ...

Sometimes it is better to leave sooner than later from each of your points of view. The employer can go back to their short list of candidates for the job you accepted and you have the option of omitting it from your resume.

Now, let's think about the wisdom of following your BF... How strong and stable is the relationship? Is his move an improvement in his career opportunities? Does HE WANT YOU TO GO WITH HIM?

Would moving with your boyfriend hurt your own career aspirations? Is the move a non-factor for your position? If he leaves you for another woman, you may have moved for nothing.

I mean I definitely want to move with him and he wants me to go with him too. I do not have doubt or a question about it.

I am primarily concerned about whether such jop-hop could potentially endanger my career.

I only did it once, a few months after arriving in Southern California. After an extensive bout of interviews with several firms, I took a trainer's job with an equipment rental company. I had been there six weeks when, lo and behold, in came a much better offer, with a considerably higher salary, from a major aerospace/defense electronics company.

I told my new bosses right away, gave them a 3-week notice, and worked every last day of it. They made two counter-offers that I politely declined. Needless to say they were NOT pleased, but they did understand.

I felt sort of like a heel for leaving them like that, but I've never regretted the decision for an instant. And no, I have never listed the job on my resume.
