I work in a retail store and employees are fired and replaced on a whim. There is also a trend to try to fire older or career employees to replace them with minimum wage part timers.
Pretty difficult. The only time firings or layoffs happen is generally during budget cuts. Other than that, I see the most lazy, useless employees (even in management) who seem to have lifetime blanket immunity year after.
The people are such a WASTE Of money. And the sad thing is a lot of those people are on the higher end of the payroll.
So, not being okay with this makes someone morally uptight? Count me in - I guess I'm among the morally uptight then.
No -- not at all -- co-worker was really well over the line, but manager was morally uptight. If she could have forced us, she would have picked us all up in a bus to take us to her church 4 nights a week and Sunday, too. She wasn't constantly on about stuff, but you could tell when things were done that bothered her, and she favored people who thought like her.
I've always wondered if co-worker started all this to stick it the manager and then decided she liked the lifestyle. Never did find out -- I think after her firing and finding out the wife was gunning for her, she took off, too.
It's disgusting how many companies who are considered "employers" are actually un-employers.
For those who might wonder: it's possible to "get fired" from your job and receive unemployment benefits, uncontested by boss man. I'm not talking about getting fired "for cause"; e.g., smoking dope during work hours, punching out a supervisor, etc....what I'm advising (if you want out and still want to collect $$$) is more....subtle.
Gradually....get a little worse.....and a little worse.....at your job. If they're on the ball, they'll put you through the whole palaver: oral warning, written warning, parole, "action plan for improvement" then finally they'll think you're so hapless that they'll lower the boom. You've done nothing actually wrong, only appeared to lose your mojo.
My school probably has 1 firing a year. Normally they occur either because you REALLY screwed up or because you accumulated several small mishaps and it's just not gonna happen for you. never of them ever go out in a ball of flames though. some are simply let go at the end of the school year and vacate pretty quietly. never a scene.
I received advance notice that someone in my department will be fired tomorrow morning when she comes in. It's not entirely undeserved. She's a very nice lady, but she spends a ton of time on the internet. She has dropped the ball on a few items that have cost the company $$$. So tomorrow she's gone.
However, I've never worked in a place where there are so many firings. It's not uncommon at all to get a memo saying so and so is no longer with the company -- with no explanation given.
Fortunately, I'm on my way out. But other places I worked, it was pretty rare.
I used to work at a place, where employees were not valued, and the management was corrupt. Usually, we got a so and so went on to other opportunities. They never came out and stated this person is fired for this offense.

Aaahhhhh, I see. I thought there was some correlation you were making. Thanks for clarifying.
Could be she was trying to stick it to church lady but odds are it was just a bad marriage of sorts, so to speak. I'll bet it was fun to watch, regardless!
