I am debating between 2 options. One is to get my associates in information technology with emphasis on computer programming so I can get a job that will give me stable income while I finish my bachelors. Will I even be able to get a job in the field after just an associates if I get multiple certs? The other option would be to get my bachelors in accounting, however after the half way mark in that field I would only have an associate of science in pre-business which I am pretty sure will not do anything for me job wise and I will still be stuck in a low wage job until I complete my bachelors. What would be the better option? My main concern with getting my associates in information technology is that I won't be able to find a job in that field with just a 2 year degree. Opinions?

Job markets vary. It's not possible to speculate on what yours is like because a) I don't know where you are and b) even if I did, I wouldn't have as good of a sense for it as people who live there.

Other than that though, getting work is more about experience than the degree.

And accounting and programming are pretty different. Is there one you think suites you better or is it more about dollars and cents?

I'm married to a programmer and hang w/ a pack of computer nerds. If you're not already doing it on the side for sh*ts and giggles, it's likely not going to come to you very easily.
A degree program is arbitrary in that line of work. The people I know that are successful are self taught. You can jump in and do your own independent projects that will mean far more than sitting through classes.
If you already have a leaning toward computer sciences or another niche within it, it's a solid option. I know security is in high demand and if you're good at what you do, a few years of experience will make you highly marketable. My husband made it through less than a year at a university but he's brilliant at what he does, has an engineering title, and a six figure income.
Accounting is a solid profession and you can find many specialties within the discipline. You can find a job almost anywhere geographically. I have many friends straight out of college who have moved up quickly and with a lot of flexibility.
Good luck with your decision and future

Depending on where you are, some programs offer a combination IT/Accounting degree. Texas A&M has a 5-year program that gets you a BBA in IS and an MS in accounting. I had several friends do that; some went the accounting route, some did IT for finance.
