I recently have been going through the interview process with a company that is out town(about 2 hours away). Last Wednesday I received a call from the recruiter updating me on the process and said she had one more reference to check(she did that day) and that the she would follow up with the hiring manager who was out of town for meetings. Since then, I haven't heard anything from them. Im not sure where I stand but Im continuing to send out applications.
Smart to continue looking. We would have no way of knowing your chances, but since it's been a week, I would pick up the phone and call her to follow up. Just say something like, "I'm wondering what the status is and if you need any additional information from me." If she says it's in the hands of the hiring manager, then you're stuck waiting. I would not advise making any additional calls other than the one to the recruiter.
Until you sign a contract keep sending out applications. Don't freak yourself out one way or another.
I agree that it's not unreasonable to place a call with the recruiter to follow up on what's happening. Don't call and say "Hey, you said you'd call me but you didn't, what's happening?"
To you the recruiter may be the most important person in your life right now. To the recruiter you are just one of many. When you call make sure to introduce yourself properly, refresh the recruiter's memory on which job this is about, and politely inquire what the status of the application is.
thanks for the responses, I called the recruiter on Tuesday and I politely inquired about what my status was in the process. I haven't heard back from them yet.
Either they have a few people they would be happy to hire, and haven't yet made a final decision, or they have made a final decision. I'm inclined to believe the odds are greater that it's the latter and not the former.
That's disappointing, I know. Just keep looking and something will pop.
Good luck!
