He should have been a little more discreet and not used the company names. But Zenefits way over reacted. Information gathering is a GOOD thing for a prospective employee to do. Very petty for them to rescind the offer just because he was trying to explore his options more thoroughly. They should have taken the time to explain why they are the better company to work for - the fact that the rescinded the offer instead means they couldn't explain that. He's lucky he won't be working there IMO.

I agree the offer should have been rescinded, but privately.

It was nice for the CEO to help this applicant out by making his decision easier.

Actually, they rescinded the offer because the candidate was more excited about working for another brand.

Actually, he was excited about this job but concerned that it was not a well known brand. That's reality - has anyone here ever heard of Zenefits?

I sure haven't. CEO thinks he runs Apple.

If he had used substitute names then some other unlucky dude might have had his own job offer rescinded. You are now entering the twilight zone.

Yes, a lot of people have (specifically those that read the news). It was the hottest startup of 2014... beating out Uber.

It's easier to get a job at Apple than it is at a post-VC startup.

Citing an article where the lede specifically says that people haven't heard of it doesn't really show that a lot of people have heard of it.
