I don't want to work overtime. I don't want to die in a literal Chernobyl. I know people who make good money as iron workers. Not a job I'd want either as their motto is "You don't get hurt on the job, you DIE on the job".
What they don't tell you is you're working 12-16 hour days and 6 days a week to make that kind of money. Its ok if you're young but no one is gonna be doing that type of work long term.
Gamerzo, are you suggesting that after we (in California) complete this 2 year AA degree in Process Tech., we will start off with 60k annually? The website says no:
"An Associate of Applied Science degree in process technology typically takes two years and covers basic science subjects that can prepare students for careers in fields such as chemical processing, mining, and power and wastewater plant operation. Process technology graduates enjoy a starting salary of approximately $40,000, which has the potential to increase to between $55,000 and $60,000 after a few years of experience,"
Not everyone wants to live in those places and not everyone wants to work all that overtime. Regardless, that is a good entry level salary, any way you slice it.
I'm in AZ with a Master's degree. Who do I talk to? I lived in The Woodlands and Montgomery, TX about 4.5 years ago and never saw those jobs.
My husband is in the drilling business and works as a Drilling Consultant. With the Saudi's and the OPEC cartel flooding our markets with cheap oil they are purposely driving our USA oil companies out of business and we are letting it happen. Hopefully, President Trump will add tariffs to this cheap oil because right now speculators are predicting oil will drop to $30 a barrel after the new year. In the USA we need at least $80 a barrel to compete.
Yes, it's a good industry to be in, but my husband hasn't worked in 1.5 years. We need tariffs, stop letting the Saudi's control our oil market!
What the...do these kind of jobs only requires ng those qualifications exist in Canada? Are they competitive? Sounds pretty good, although I'd guess in Canada youd have to move to a remote location. Heard some months ago that Alberta is hiring a lot less in this industry

Working as a wastewater plant operator is a lot safer, more secure (there will always be sewage), with more normal hours and better pay, since most are union and public agencies. Where I used to work, in Oakland, CA, sewage treatment plant operators start at $76,000, and Shift Supervisors make $130,000.
