$72k at 90 hours per week is $16/hr
$40k at 40 hours per week is $20/hr

I choose $20/hr.

mathematical errors aside and in the spirit of the question, I HAVE chosen to make less money in order to do work that I love (or at least like much of the time), and I would NEVER sacrifice my health and sanity for money. Although I have considered it.

Where do you people work where you are expected to work 80-90 hours a week? That's two jobs.

I know someone who refused to relocate to keep a job paying 100K because he loves where he lives so much...he thinks that was worth the sacrifice although he has been out of work since May and had only two possible jobs he interviewed for in this time...
Not that any jobs in his field asking for his experience and skill set...
Personally I think being able to support your family is a factor as important as "quality of life"...
