I got an invitation to connect with someone on Linkedin. I don't believe I've ever met this person, and it doesn't appear we have connections in common, so my impulse was to ignore the request. However, this person works at a place I have always wanted to work at, so I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to accept their invite for the purpose of tapping into their knowledge of this place. What do you think?

I only accept LinkedIn requests from strangers if they are first connections to someone on my own connection list. And they have to be a first connection to someone I know personally (i.e., I would not accept a LI request from a 1st connection to the stranger connection I made via someone else).
However, if it was someone that worked for a corporation I was interested in, then yes, I might accept the connection in order to find out information about the company from an insider.
If they are a staffing agency recruiter I reject them and if they look suspicious as in they have nothing in their background related to me I hesitate. Otherwise I am pretty open.

I say Go for it....Networking is what Linkedin is about imo.
