If you attended a funeral for an immediate family member, and used a sick day (three days for a spouse, parent or child) you needed to have proof such as death certificate, newspaper obituary, church bulletin or similar documentation. Apparently, there were one or two or several people who had a few too many grandparents die over the years. After that they never trusted anyone.

Actually, both statements were accurate.
Frankly, I was so insulted by their rule of requesting proof, together with your written request to use sick days (they preferred that you requested the sick day/days in
advance) for attending the funeral of an immediately family member, that I stapled every bit of proof that I could find for my father's death & funeral to the form, including both obituaries from the newspaper, a death certificate, the program from the funeral, and the card from the funeral home. I also stapled a poem that he had written and a copy of my favorite photograph of the two of us to the form.
