I am moving from real estate into finance and have a question for the readers. I am currently a real estate sales agent, but after passing (crossing fingers) the series 7, series 66, and life and health exams, I'll become a licensed financial advisor with a very well-known company.
Here's the question:
What approach would you most likely respond to--if approached by a person (never met me) such as myself offering to be your financial advisor? Would it be a phone call, an email, a recommendation, or a class/lecture held by myself?
A recommendation...join a local business network organization. You'd be surprised at some of the leads you get there. Or if you are a member of one as a realtor, announce in your next meeting that you have changed careers. Good luck!
My husband joined BNI (Business Network Inc) when we were up in West Hartford. He was able to drum up a lot of business from there. I am hoping there is a chapter close to where you are. Now that we are down in the south, he was able to join another one right here as well. He is now busting at the seams! In fact, when we moved out my 401K from a former employer, the guy we used was an Edward Jones FP who we met through the network. They are encouraged to recommend each other within the group. There is a national site for BNI...google it and see what the closest group is to where you are and check with them if they already have a FP in the group, as they won't let more than one in each industry in.

Best of luck to you!
Sounds good--I'll research that right away. Thanks so much again.
