COBRA for me will be $590 for Health and Dental for December, I don't know if it will go up in 2017, but I'm guessing so. (I got let go due to reduction in force on Nov 18 ). I'm just starting to search online on the government exchange and ehealthinsurance and I am finding prices that start at $600 for the lowest level, if I am doing this right. I will not qualify for a subsidy unless I can find no work in 2017. I'm 60 and live in Miami so I think it's best I take COBRA.

Is there a thread, or can I start one, where I can ask questions about non-COBRA health insurance? I don't want to go against forum rules if I need to research myself. Thanks!

There is a Health Insurance sub-forum in the Health and Wellness forum.

Holy crap, I just tried going on and putting my age as 60, and can't believe how high they went up just from 6 years in age difference. The policy I have is listed over $200 higher when changing the age from 54 to 60.

I don't know what I'm going to do long term, this is nuts. I am hoping desperately to turn 55 before they replace Medicare with a voucher program so I can get grandfathered in to the current plan

Did you get around $600 for the lowest level at age 60? I'm just wondering if I'm doing it right.

Usually, health benefits expire at the end of the month in which you terminated. As I understand it, you have 30 days after to sign up for COBRA. It's worth checking into. I left my workplace in November and my COBRA payments will be $492 a month - cheaper than I can get a policy under the ACA.

No, it was closer to $800.00.

Depends on the companies plan, some at end of month, some at 1st day past termination.

Also, a company has 30 days from termination to notify COBRA eligibility and the former employee has 45 days to enroll after that.

Another note- COBRA is 100% cost of the employer premium, plus no more than a 2% administration fee.

Me too. COBRA cost me $750 back in 2010 and my benefits were reduced. They were also a nightmare to deal with.
