I have been an RN for 32 years. It never was my career of choice (I wanted to be a wildlife biologist), but I have hung in there and gave it my all for these 32 years. But without going into long details, I have had it. I am in my mid-50's and still a long way from retirement, if that can even happen. Has anyone here ever left nursing to do something else? Are you happy with that decision? What are you doing instead? Were the financial changes difficult to deal with?
I work with several nurses who left nursing and went into healthcare IT. They got a bump in salary and are generally happy with the decision. If you've got an aptitude for computers it may be a good direction to take.
