If it helps, you can breathe at concerts and not fail a drug screen. Yes, it is possible it will show...but, the tests are set to have an allowable level in the results. You will very likely be well under the allowable level, even if you hung out in the pit next to one of those people who exist in a permanent cloud of smoke.

True...however, I have been a part of the scheduling of 3 "random" tests in my work history. All 3 were because there was a report of on the job impairment...from someone. And, as it was a RN all 3 times, the follow up had to happen.

Hmm....I still imbibe on caffeine ( it's a drug),and ohh chocolate too!

As a person with years of sobriety I can't call a kettle black. Sometimes I do call the kettle half baked ;p.

That's a huge mis-statement. It's not legal everywhere. It's still illegal at the Federal level, and as Federal Law trumps state law, it's actually still illegal in all 50 states.

Agreed. You cannot blame anyone other then yourself here. The policy was clear, and you took the risk knowing it could affect the family as a whole due to lost income. Hope you get a new job and accept the lesson learned here, and do not repeat this most importantly.

Employers wanting employees to be drug and alcohol free isn't a religious issue from my perspective. In fact, if it were, I doubt the law would support it.

Rather it is for safety, efficiency and health purposes. Seems an employer has a right to have related expectations. Particularly if he is participating in a health insurance program or in a position of being sued because of something an employee does with mood-altering chemicals in his system.

I kinda see both sides of this issue.

First, the employer is free to make ridiculous rules like you can't play video games in your free time, and in that case if you get caught are rules still rules?

On the other hand, if you live in a state where marijuana is legal, you might have some ground although it's still illegal at the federal level. I don't agree with that but unfortunately, laws are laws and some places don't want to be associated with people who break the laws.
