Yes I agree I just used " Thank you" as a general term.

Cool your jets, Astro.

They are very interested in you. They probably have others to interview as well. Then there's Thanksgiving. Someone is on vacation and the process stalls until they get back(possibly).
Direct Hire is a way of expediting the process, usually because it's a shortage and/ or a critical position. (Google it)

When they give you a tentative offer you will have more hoops to jump through including a background check. Secret clearance isn't too bad. TS is more stringent. (Kind of obvious).
You may need a physical and drug screen.

Once you do all the on- boarding stuff you'll be given a start date. It's not really yours without a start date.

Do not contact the hiring official. That puts him in a bad position. There's contact info at the bottom of the job announcement. Direct any questions to them.

Be patient.
Also they normally contact the one they selected first. If they can't get through the hoops, the next person is given the tentative offer. They should have a few possible.

What I normally do is just keep throwing applications out there.

I have 4 out (low number for me). I've interviewed for 2 and the other 2 I've been referred. I try not to obsess. Keep throwing applications ot there. Nothing else to do.
Skip the thank you note. You should have thanked them at the interview.

No, they aren't doing a background check on you yet. They won't do that until they've made an initial offer and you've accepted. Anything other than a simple records check takes time and money that they won't spend on every candidate.

Also we are in continuing resolution. Which means the government isn't funded beyond a short term date and at only at a percentage of last year's budget. So depending on the position and funding source, they may not be able to do much until after the full budget is signed.

I wont send a Thank you note but maybe a follow up in a bit.

I'm in Canada but this is an American consulate. I have an American citizen ship and as I read on the website "AEFM" That means American eligible family member, and US citizens get priority and relatives to citizens.

The main person was there, and she was with HR guy. I don't have his contact info it wasn't on the mass sent out email. He joined the interview as well, which is unexpected.

Anyways yes I keep waiting. My US Citizenship is real 100% documentation, and yep, live here in Canada.

I guess thats all for now. But after interviews, If I was contacted first and had the first interview( and I know this ). The order interviews are in have priority to the order? I never heard about that anywhere.

They open at 8am here, I was first up on interview day at 830 am.

Well If I was screened called and booked in like 3 days and showed up at 830am.

If they have first called/prefered candidate rule........I sure hope thats true, this is like 20k pay boost for me, hence the nervousness.

Im running out of questions to ask everyone.I know I have to wait.

Also one person may have been on vacation. The main woman senior staff person was there, but the man that was supposes there was someone different from who was supposed to be there. No idea..... maybe is on vacation or something.

There is no such thing as an immediate hire unless you are already filling out your intake paperwork (I-9, ID/immigration paperwork) after the interview, when you're told you got the job.

Everyone else has to wait.

I understand. I have a full US citizenship, Social, passport Birth certificate. So Im not technically foreign. I still apply around everyday just in case

When they first contacted me , they wanted a phone call and then changed their mind and asked me to come in person instead. I hope I get this.

So I did send an email to the HR people which is in a different part of the country.

I got an immediate reply in the morning saying " This is still in process" Only that and nothing else. They responded within an hour.

So who knows... I still apply around. Hopefully I'll hear a decision soon. This was a couple weeks back

Oh hon, you're asking for the Sun, moon and stars. "Rejection letter"? I got one out of 100 applications.... Yeah, that's how many give a poop of your feelings.

As it has been said here "Keep looking till you have an offer in hand. Then start looking again"...
