Who cares whether there is a shortage or not? Either you are working or not. Leave what everyone else is doing to them.
People these days are making sensationalism their new main job, from their ranting, shrieking soapboxes. But if you stay busy and productive, you have better things to do, and don't need to lower yourself.

Just checked the college I graduated from. For the 20-21 school year, you know, the one that just graduated, 89% are either employed or in grad school. Only 11% are seeking employment.
These are new graduates. They didn't come out the door with years of experience. Yet the somehow got jobs.
Kind of blows your claims about "catch 22" and "90% can't get jobs" out of the water.
So, redact your resume and post it. We'll give you suggestions on what it takes to get hired.

Politicians love perspectives like this.
If everyone had this attitude there would be no strikes or collective bargaining agreements, which largely benefit the workforce.

Ok, that's your (probably Division 1) school. Not the average. There are thousands of colleges.
I'd be curious if anyone actually fact-checked this guy's claims and followed up with each of the 60 applications he sent in. I'm always leery of these "news" stories of one individual claiming he or she did something to an extreme.
In the Midwest, you are going to have trouble with staffing for less than $15 an hour. They start new employees out at that wage where I work and half of them don't stick around for even their first month.

The article said that none of the jobs he applied for paid over $12/hour, so yes, those are definitely employers looking for legal slaves. Here, though, even fast food and retail employers are reducing hours due to lack of staff, even while offering $20/hour.

*rolls eyes*
You deny that a catch-22 exists, as do most people here. And nobody has a solution to the catch-22 except to look down on the people who got hit by it and judge them harshly.
We get the person who found a job with no experience recently because someone gave them a chance denying there is no catch-22. This is like a lottery winner who claims to be a self-made millionaire.
We got the person who got their entry level job 20+ years ago when they still existed, and denying the catch-22 doesn't exist - even though they haven't looked for a job lately.
We got the person who graduated from a top school, telling people "just go to Harvard"
We got people who's path cannot be replicated by others. But they say "do as I did! all is rainbows and unicorns"
