I'd really enjoy doing something that is making a difference rather than the usual... something non-profit related. Does anyone know of an organization/agency that can help me out with this? I've searched online but have only found situations like the Peace Corps which asks a longterm commitment, or others who need you to spend thousands of dollars. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm in Atlanta but I think United Way might be a place to start.
Hospice, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Assoc and the state of New York must have programs similar to those in GA--Job Corps and summer youth programs.
Certainly churches should have some FYI on opportunities to volunteer.
