Hi, I'm a recent college grad who will be moving to New York in July and looking for work. I really don't want to spend all of June just sitting on the couch and watching tv however. I'm interested in a 2 or 3 week work/volunteer opportunity either in the US or overseas. I'd really enjoy doing something that is making a difference rather than the usual... something non-profit related. Does anyone know of an organization/agency that can help me out with this? I've searched online but have only found situations like the Peace Corps which asks a longterm commitment, or others who need you to spend thousands of dollars. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm in Atlanta but I think United Way might be a place to start.

Hospice, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Assoc and the state of New York must have programs similar to those in GA--Job Corps and summer youth programs.

Certainly churches should have some FYI on opportunities to volunteer.

What do you have a passion for? You can take that and use it for volunteer work; and make it even long term...

The YMCA has great opportunities in addition to the ones mentioned above.

Default Great to know you would like to help out

Honestly it all comes down to what you enjoy doing....I have been volunteering for the past 6yrs and I love it. There are a lot of places to go if you do not want to be tied to a long contract - a few examples will be the local boys & girls clubs, coalition for shelter, united way, big brother programs etc.

With most of these you can pick what you want to do or help out with something that is already in place and a few great places to look for opportunities include:
