Hi! I've decided on a move to the States from Ireland. Just that I'm a little concerned about my job prospects. Well, given the current economic condition, I gotta admit I'm actually worried about finding a decent job. I've got no work experience whatsoever from the US. I'm 21, no college, just full of hope. I've got dual citizenship (American, European) so no permit worries. I was working over a year here in a factory, quite a respected American Fortune 500 medical company. The simplest job description but still, got my year of experience. Now I was just wondering, does that fact have any impact on my chances of finding a decent manufacturing job? By decent I mean quite more than minimum wage. Is any factory/warehouse experience from abroad respected at all? What about American factories from countries like UK or Ireland? Does that give one any more credit? Considering my situation, no college or any US work experience. I've heard there's big economic growth in some of the biggest cities in Texas, so let's imagine job hunting in those mentioned circumstances. I'd consider myself rather diligent when it comes to job searching, using your opportunities. I mean, I'd really make an effort for checking out the available jobs. And perhaps the most tricky one for the end, I've mentioned factory jobs, but would my modest experience from abroad give me any chances at all in other fields like hospitality or retail? I realize this all sounds so general, but please, if anyone had any thoughts, it would be much appreciated. Best regards!

Well, you have to write resume first. Any experience adds you value if applied to relevant position. But without college you will be limited only to minimal wage jobs, IMHO.

Education is great but it is still possible to do OK without it. There is still oppurtunity for young tough guys. I've had a few factory/warehouse jobs and a warehouse is pretty much a warehouse wherever you go.
I have a friend with no education that went to work for Wal-mart headquarters in NW Arkansas a few years back and I heard he just bought a house.

Just understand you'll be in line with American workers who are hard-pressed to find jobs. We're looking for jobs, too! Good Luck!
