I hate it when I CLEARLY state the reason I am calling and I get a total unrelated response back cause they are reading from some STUPID script!

ME: Yes I would like to request a lower interest rate on my credit card. I have been an excellent paying customer and in good standing so I want my rate lowered.

THEM: Okay Ma'am you would like to close out your credit card account. I will be happy to help you with that. Can I get your credit card account number please?

ME: *hanging up the phone*

I remember a decade in a half ago when I first had moved Jacksonville, FL...there were so many call center jobs that it was a walk in sure deal for just about anyone. Companies paid between $10-14 an hour and all was well. It wasn't a ton of money, but it was good steady work for thousands of people just in this one city. When these jobs went overseas....the whole city also suffered. This same scenario occurred all over the county.

I think as American we should stand together and DEMAND these jobs back for our own people. We should refuse to do business with any large company who doesn't comply. Most people would rather be placed on hold longer and at least end up speaking to someone they can understand on the phone to discuss their problem with rather than someone in Manila.

Let me start a list for you...

Don't use Symantec products as your anti-virus as their call center is in Manila. Actually, I received excellent customer service from them on the two occasions hubby and I had to call, but because you don't want to deal with the English-speaking people in Manila, use McAfee instead.

If you use any Intuit products (Quickbooks), drop those too. Their call centers are in Manila.

WaMu and Citibank have their call centers there as well. I believe many banks have their call centers there.

Soon, you'll run out of products to use.

The problem is that we need to stop bailing out failing companies and start allowing new, more efficient companies to prevail. That is what creates jobs.

One major thing we could do is reinvent our energy infrastructure. Right now we spend 800 billion on foreign oil. If we ran our cars on ethanol, we could grow the crops in the US, with american labor. We wouldn't use corn (terrible feedstock for ethanol) but rather weeds like switchgrass or something of that sort. For electricity we could build renewable energy generating facilities. That would save the environment (coal is very dirty, uses too much water/land, and causes too much health anomalies).

We could also legalize drugs. For example, in many states marijuana is already the largest cash crop, even though it is illegal! Just goes to show how effective our drug policy is! We could also grow hemp which could be used to make biodegradable plastic, paper, clothing, health products and automotive fuel. It uses little to no pesticides, requires little water, grows anywhere in the US, and it is the fastest growing known plant. Yet, american farmers cannot grow this crop all because of our obsolete drug policy! No wonder the US is turning into a rust belt!

I have a very common last name, very easy to spell. They can never get it right. Then I hang up. Disgusted. I would gladly pay for better service.
Bring the jobs back and put America back to work.
