Did anyone ask the manager why he needs it to be done on the Eve if he needs it only on Monday? Maybe there is a valid reason (like working from home on Friday?).
If not, at least he would have considered your question and come-up with an answer...

I know, its very frustrating when the managers 'micromanage'.
