We live in a very fluid world. Yet many workplaces have mission statements that are supposed to say what a company stands for and is about, not only for internal purposes, but also to make a statement to the public.

What do you think of mission statements?
Pretty important. It drives a companies strategy. From strategy comes tactics. But it has to be concise and clear - laying out EXACTLY what the company does and how they do it. But too many companies make them too vague or just fill them up with generic corporate-speak nouns and verbs so that it becomes essentially meaningless.
Here is a "mission statement generator" that bad and unimaginative bosses can use: Mission statement generator
Here's what I came up with:
"We envision to dramatically leverage extensible information to stay competitive in tomorrow's world."
...meaningless drivel

What do you think of mission statements?
I've worked for one that had it. I thought that it was kind of silly as most ANY company was making it their mission to make money for the owners or stockholders...To do it in a "Ecologically sustainable way" was even more funny when you see the past reports of massive chemical dumping and labor abuses...
can't stand them. utterly pointless drivel. I used to work at a place where not only did the company have mission statemetns, but each employee had to have one as well, as dictated by HR. It was the dumbest thing I ever had to do

I don't know what my employer's mission statement is. Most places I've worked, they've posted it in high traffic areas. Not this place. Been there 2.5 years now.
