Let the voicemail get it and return the call in 2 hours? I mean I don't want to just grab the phone when they call and look like I was waiting for a call from somebody.
I have a very professional voicemail and I rather them hear that first before I call so I can get myself mentally ready when I call back.
If you can wait and be calm, do.
Didn't we talk about this yesterday or the other day in a forum post? There is nothing cool about getting the phone and being caught off guard.

No i was asking did anyone ever get caught off guard by a phone interview. I'm asking is it wise to grab the phone as soon as the employer calls and come off as NEEDY.
I think it's fine to call them back, but just be aware they aren't sitting on their hands waiting for you. How many other prospective employees are they calling and REACHING in the 2 hours it takes you to pull yourself together and return the call? If you need some time take 10 minutes not 2 hours.
One time I was walking the dog, and my husband got the call. I have no idea what he told the guy (if the guy was grilling my husband about me, where I was..whatever..they seem to LIKE to get you off guard to answer the phone). He said she will call you back. Well, it must have been about ten minutes later and I called the man back. The first thing he says is "That was fast!" as if I was hiding out in the background while my husband screened the call.
It's all game sometimes...a tiring, energy zapping game. Good luck to you TV guy.
I think it's fine to let the answering machine take the call. But as others have said, don't wait too long to return it. This happened to me a few weeks ago....I waited till the next morning to return the call and by that time they only had one interview slot left. The time really didn't work for me for a bunch of reasons. I ended up making it work but it added to the stress.

I guess going by the past, I always returned the call the next day when a employer left me a message. I would be at work and they would leave a message and by time I arrived home it was too late to call so I waited until the next day. Now I'm just talking about 2 hours which I thought was fine.
