Oh, here is one I hear often as well:

"You need to make yourself stand out among the other 500 applicants applying for the same position."

As if I was not already aware of the competition I am up against while looking for a job.....

I guess I could do a cartwheel or some other acrobatic maneuver at then next interview!

These are all great. They are the job seekers' equivalent of the phrases that give dieter's angst:
"You have to make wise eating decisions." (Gee, I didn't know that cheesecake had more calories than the cantaloupe. Thanks for telling me. Now it will be easy. I just never knew. I think I'll go hire a dietitian right now.)

"Instead of eating that bowl of ice cream, have 4 oz. of melon. It tastes just as good and it only has 75 calories." (You're right. In fact it tastes better and 4 oz. always satisfies me.)

"If you use just four less teaspoons of sugar every day, you'll lose a pound every 50 days." (Doesn't everybody measure their daily caloric content down to the five calorie resolution?)

"You just have to train yourself to not like chocolate."

I'd go as far as saying that many of them probably do suffer from a god-complex.
No. Engineers suffer from a mere demi-god complex.

It's architects that think they are god.

LOL.

I think secretly, all engineers dislike architects. For some reason, I have felt this way since college. It's like having a paint artist work in construction, not the best fit.

I do hear "have you found a job YET.." all the time from my engineering friends and classmates. A lot of them in grad school are realizing how bad the job market is now. The questions aren't as frequent anymore haha.

Even prostitution is down, at least at the legal places in Nevada.

Everyone is on here complaining about the "lucky to have a job" thing but it's true. Worldwide there is more of a labor supply than demand. The problem, at least here in the US, is that everyone wants to live the high life and think if a job doesn't pay at least 50k a year then it's not worth getting out of bed for. Part of a job and life is doing things you don't like. Our culture has been so brainwashed by Hollywood it's ****ing disgusting! Whatever happened to being tough?

Unless you really hate or despise the actual job itself then I would change
