1. Frendliness
Australia, slightly, but we're more similar than you might imagine. The English are known as being reserved and private but some really are nice, friendly people with a great sense of humour. Both country's have their share of hooligan types of course.
2. Safety
I would say Australia slightly. Both have low violent crime rates, but parts of the UK can get hairy. Oh we're only comparing England? Then at least Glasgow is out.
3. Cultural contribution
UK of course, although Oz punches above it's weight. UK is probably tied with the US for no. 1 spot in the world.
4. Politics
Both have a similar political/legal system. I can't say which is really 'better.'
5. Economy
Ours is doing better at the moment, but England obviously still has a bigger GDP. We are a large, resource-rich nation: they are a small, people-rich nation.
6. Women
We're about 60% British (but that includes a lot of Scottish, Irish, Welsh) but have more diversity. Also more tans, so I'll go with us.
7. Environment
Australia no contest. We have the space, scenery, natural beauty. England or the UK (I don't quite know which you meant in the OP) has been environmentally ravaged although has nice spots. They are obviously much more polluted being so crowded.
8. Scenery
Oh kind of an overlap. Oz of course.
9. Weather
Australia, obviously.
10. Location
UK is probably more convenient for travel, and is close to Europe, so will have to say UK.
11. Sports
Aussie rules > everything else, so of course Australia . But Britain originated or popularized most of the world's great sports so overall I'll give it to them.
12. Cuisine
You can find a lot more than a roast dinner or toad in the hole in the UK now and London is becoming famed for fine dining. Most 'Australian food' was just British. Now, I'd say a tie.
13. Transportation
Both aren't too bad on a world level, can't really separate the two. UK is obviously a lot smaller so easier to cover.
14. Infrastructure
Tie/not sure
15. Healthcare
No idea
16. Education
UK is probably more prestigious, but I think our students probably turn out better on the whole. Many British schoolchildren seem a bit...clueless.
17. Affordability
Probably actually the UK now, believe it or not. Sydney became more expensive than London and COL in general is high here.
18. Pop culture
UK of course although Australia represents for sure.
19. History
UK, obviously.
20. Architecture
Again, Britain obviously wins. Only thing it lacks is a lot of skyscrapers aside from a few in London.
1) friendliness- both countries have friendly people, it really depends where in the country you are.
2) safety- Australia
3) cultural contribution- Australia (aboriginal culture- not mentioned yet I think)
4) economy- Australia, due to all the mining booms
5) women- tie
6) environment- Australia
7) scenery- Australia
8) politics- England
9) weather- Australia- that changes depending wether you like the cold or heat.
10) location- England
11) sports- tie
12) cuisine- Australia
13) transport and infrastructure- England
14) healthcare- wouldn't know
15) schooling- England
16) costs- England
17) pop culture- Australia
18) history- Australia (dreamtime history, and the convicts)
20) architecture- tie (between old historic sites, and developed housing areas.)
Only problem of australia: it's far away if you're from...well any other place of the world :P.
I am also not huge fan of their language, can't understand why are americans such fans of the british/australian accents BUT since english isn't my mother tongue what do i know - i guess british is really "sexy"...
Britain is also too cosmopolitan, has high level of xenophobia and i can't believe some people say they're economy is getting better. In 20 years they'd be like poland and in 40 like bulgaria. While australia is on the rise.
