In order from highest to lowest priority, the top 10 sizeable cities (let's say 1 million plus in metro area) anywhere in the world that you think everyone should see before they die. I'm particularly interested in the ranking of the top tiers.

For me, it was an extremely tough decision between NYC and London for top spot. NYC probably wins out because Paris is on the list too. I know London is so different to Paris, but NYC still embodies the 'big city' so it had to be no. 1.

1. New York
2. Paris
3. London
4. Rome
5. Tokyo
6. Istanbul
7. Florence
8. Beijing
9. Rio de Janeiro
10. Amsterdam

Runners up: Kyoto, Athens, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Sydney

Darn totally forgot HK, I think it'd at least be runner's up. But I'll leave my list unchanged anyway.

NYC is nothing like Paris or London or even Tokyo. I would it much further down on the list.
Just because it's an important city doesn't mean it's as interesting or historically moving to visit.
Frankly, every time I visit, I just get a giant headache and a gut full of regret.
I think I'd put L.A./Hollywood over NYC.
I'd also put Venice over Rome or Florence.
I'd put New Delhi over Istanbul.

Some odd choices. Manchester and Edinburgh over London? Toronto?

Well I was asking what you'd recommend to someone who had never visited any of those cities.
