I'd only live in Malaysia or Turkey. More liberal Muslim countries such as the UAE or Qatar seem okay, though I could never live there.

With the recent events in Dubai, UAE might even be off some people's lists. Personally, I would still visit Dubai, as well as Morocco and Indonesia. But I wouldn't live in any of them. My lifestyle would clash with their customs.

Turkey is pretty astonishing for culture and history IMO and it's reasonably westernized so wouldn't be too much of a culture shock.

Norwegian woman jailed in Dubai after reporting rape

On Wednesday, a Norwegian expat was sentenced to 16 months in jail by a court in the United Arab Emirates after she reported being raped. Twenty-five-year-old Marte Deborah Dalelv was charged for having extramarital sex, drinking alcohol without a license and perjury.

Dalelv was allegedly raped in March and says police confiscated her passport and imprisoned her for four days after she reported the incident. She has since sought refuge in a Norwegian church in Dubai.

Speaking to the Associated Press, Dalev said that her alleged rapist, a work colleague, received a lesser sentence of 13 months for extramarital sex and alcohol consumption

Dubai laws are strict Islamic and she had to have at least 4 male witnesses of the rape, or the rapist to confess in order to be a rape according to the courts in Dubai.

Pretty barbaric.

But....This is a good reason people should really think twice about visiting some of these countries, and understand that you are in their world and its their rules. If she had thought about that a bit more then perhaps she would not have been in the position to get raped in the first place. Women there typically are escorted by a family member and are not allowed to be alone with other men.

People should really think hard about where they travel, especially women to Islamic countries. You can preach all the feminism bs you want to, but when you step into an Islamic country in the middle east you better realize that you are not equal to a man in many respects.

Just to be clear, I do not agree with this type of barbaric law. It is however their country and their laws, not mine.

I would never live in an islamic country. The culture is completely different of mine, my values are different (I'm a rosicrucian christian), certainly I would feel myself uncomfortable. For visiting, however, I would mention Turkey, Egypt and Indonesia. If I leave my country, I would choose another christian country (I don't care if catholic, protestant or even orthodox) or a secular one like Sweden or Czech Republic. I have no sentiment against muslims or believers of other religions, I respect all of them and also non-believers, but I'm afraid to be victim of prejudice by some radical groups due to religious issues, especially in the countries under the sharia.

To live:

1. Malaysia
2. Indonesia
3. Turkey
4.Bahrain
5. UAE

To visit would be pretty much the same.
