but china has even more people, but less rape/gang rape cases than india. what's the deal here then?
How do you know? Because there weren't as many on the front page of your supermarket tabloid? Or because you didn't receive as many forwarded chain e-mails about them?
Yes, but usually if you are with a partner, particularly a male, you are safe. Not so in India.
In most rape cases that I've heard of, the rapist is just one individual, but evidently in India they roam in packs. That says something to me. In most cultures it is such a taboo that the rapist cannot find others and does not trust others. In India there are evidently sub-cultures in which this seems like a good way to pass the time evidently.
You know how rapists and child molesters get the **** kicked out of them in our prisons? I wonder if that happens in Indian prisons?
I don't travel with an escort.
Nor do I feel that I should be required to.
There are a lot of gang rapes in the US.
I noticed that your map didn't reflect much in the northern hemisphere at all.

The map merely picked out eight recent incidents that were widely reported in the tabloid media, and ignored hundreds, maybe thousands of others that were quietly prosecuted or not reported at all, or simply resulted in a "missing person". Funny, there was no marker on the map for those guys in Cleveland who kept three women imprisoned for ten years. I guess, for some reason, that did not meet the criteria. Which means, it was not in a country that it is fashionable to bash these days.

Yes, one would have to compare the actual rape statistics per population between the two countries. I love it how some people extrapolate about a vast country of over a billion because of about 3 incidents. I suspect the overall rate of sexual assault is a lot lower than many fear, although perhaps it depends on the definition.

People are protesting in India because there has been a problem with rapes and nothing was done about them. Also rapes are very under reported. These incidents have come to light but there is definitely a problem in India as regards rape.

Where in that link is a statistic that supports your comment, or a statement from a reliable person who purports to have such a statistic?
