In my city I feel ok but I have to be alert, I doubt you guys really do not care genuinely, in every city you have to be alert at night.
Don't have to be alert where I live, I walk home from the pub in a world of my own and no one ever bothers me - the biggest risk to me probably is being hit by a car as I don't really pay much attention crossing the road at night either.

Maybe I should've been a bit clearer to you and Ariete, my bad, I was referring more to cities and such, not really small towns.
"Without a care" doesn't necessarily equate to walking with an air of invincibility, grinning like an idiot or blinkered to the sights and sounds of the world around me. It doesn't mean you aren't able to assimilate information if and when it arrives and react accordingly to it.
It means you are able to live and travel without a sense of trepidation. It does to me anyway.

Same is true for Vienna...
