A capital is a city or town that functions as the seat of government and administrative centre of a country or region. No city deserves to gain the unofficial recognition as the world’s capital, because not even New York City can act as an administrative center for the whole world. The UN is in NYC but many UN resolutions get ignored by many countries.

We no longer live in the era of empires, so that definition would be useless anyway.

That is the definition of a capital. No city fits that definition as the capital of the world today. Also, you don’t have to be an empire to have a capital.

I don't see how a city can be the administrative center of the whole world if it is not the capital of an empire.

Well, hypothetically, if EU decided to unify, I am not saying that will happen, but if it happened, than Brussels would be the capital of EU countries. Anyways, there was not a capital of the world during the time of empires, and there is not a capital of the world now.

LOL - have you been to Brussels.

Also isn't the European Parliament also in Strasbourg, so they are continually moving from Brussels to Strasbourg so they don't upset the French.

As for International Organisations there are numerous ones in Switzerland including the UN which also has a large complex in Vienna as well as the Hague in the Netherlands (International Courts).

OK I get it you don’t like the EU.

?
I think what he’s saying is that the EU has a number of geopolitical centres that are of significance that it would be absurd for Brussels to hold all the glory. I don’t detect any anti-EU sentiment in his post.

Milkyway, That’s what I think and that’s what I wrote. I didn’t know I had to explain myself to you whenever I wrote something to someone.

Fair enough. I didn’t mean to sound harsh either.
